My name is 'ANANYA'

When I was little, the first day I was going to school, my mother was combing my hair. She was continuously teaching me from past one week if teacher asks you at school 'What is your name?', you will say in a clear tone "My name is ANANYA".

She asked me the question thousand times, because when I first started talking I would mispronounce my name, yeah my own name! So she was making sure I said it right. Well, now when others do the same I get so furious. She told me Ananya meant  "Unique".

GooGle  says : The name Ananya means 'endless, peerless or without a second'. This female name has Indian origins and is very common in areas such as Nepal. But I am not from Nepal, I have never been to Nepal.

The baby girl name Ananya comes from the Indian word which means, "Without a second; Endless; Unique; Peerless; Dheriyadhana."Vedic word which means, "indistinguishable - source of everything - origin of matter and energy where both are the same and not distinguishable.

Well, my aunt(mother's sister) said the name is a Sanskrit word which means, "one in lakh, one-of-d-kind, not separate, matchless" Indian word which means, "not comparable", this is why she first suggested this name to my mother, and later I was named so.

Someone also suggested the name is an English word which means, "UNCOMPARABLE." Sanskrit word which means, "not like this girl." Tamil word which means, "thanithuvam." Indian word which
means, "incomparable."

Few days back, I read it is an Hebrew word which means, "God of vapor or cloud.." Canada word which means, "beautiful, lovely, the best!." Indian word which means, "appall tree pretty girl, gold."

In Yoga, Ananya means having no other object; undistracted; devoted to worship only One Lord and no one else !

Well, I always liked my name, liked it more when I saw my name in Chetan Bhagat's "TWO STATES". I get excited when I hear it the latest movie promos  but ever since I started blogging am totally loving  it !

  2. To be very frank Ananya is in fact a sweet name. I really love this name, though I was not aware that it means Unique. To be very precise, there were only a few names which I like too much, Garima being the all time favorite of mine, and this is the reason why I named my little angel as Garima, and then Ananya and then there are only a few names there which I like so much.

  3. Ananya is a really wonderful name..."not comparable" is the right word. Very well researched. The good part about Sanskrit or Hindi names is that you can find its origin and meaning. Add the sandhi-viched as well, it will add more value to your post. Really nice entry :) :D

  18. Your name is beautiful, Ananya! You must be so proud to have learned that it means you have no equal! We researched our sons' names carefully, too. One of their names means "Little Raven" and in ancient times ravens had special powers. The other one's name means "A gift from God",(which we think all children are)

  22. Ananya is a beautiful name. I had problems with my name while learning to talk. My uncle always called me Bang-Bang! This was as much as I could manage at first (taken from the Barnes Beatham; Beatham being my maiden name).
I was named after my maternal grandmother, (Frances Barnes, the Barnes being her maiden name), who always went by her pet name, Fanny.
Fanny was a very popular name in its own right during the 19th century, but I haven't a clue where it came from., or what it means.

  23. I found some grammatical errors such as "an Sanskrit". "Am Ananya" am must always be accompanied by I for a proper English. Other than that, yes your name is meaningful, good thought :)
