Husband's Success, NOT your's ?

husband's succes,indian wifes sacrifices,indian home maker

Me: "Congratulations! This is Raj's second promotion this year, he is a genius."

Rohini (No trace of happiness, with a sigh of relief ): "I am happy that we don't have to relocate, its such a pain packing up all your stuff, shifting furniture's, adjusting to a new city, new home, new neighbors, change in weather, rigorous school admission process, finding domestic help Ufff..."
Me(trying to cheer her, with a tease) : "So lets go shopping tomorrow, now that Raj is earning 3 times more, you can afford those diamond earrings, you were eying for so long."

Rohini (with a faint smile):"Yeah lets go some other time, not tomorrow. Somehow I don't feel like buying them anymore. Would you like to have some tea?"

Me:"Yes please".

I noticed her, as she walked towards the kitchen, she had a blank expression on her face. She was putting in efforts  to look happy, since I knew her for so many years I could tell something was wrong. But what exactly, that only she knew.

Me(sipping the hot tea):"You miss your old job?"

Rohini:"Oh ! I had  almost forgotten about it, after all its been 8years now. I thought I would rejoin once Riya was 2, but then Raj changed his company and we had to move to another state. Once we had Rohan, life just became so busy and time flew by. Yes I miss my job, after all I won 'THE BEST EMPLOYEE' award for 3 consecutive years. My boss would always tell me that .........my colleagues were so friendly.... healthy yet competitive work environment ......

Rohini continued talking but I was lost in my own thoughts, couldn't ignore the sudden change in her voice, she seemed so excited and continued to smile, with that spark in her eyes which was lost somewhere over a period of time. Even though it was her decision to choose family over her career, I wonder if she had to do it all over again would her choices differ.

Behind every successful MAN, there is a WOMAN --
If that's true, will that man share this success with his woman?
If a husband is successful and  his wife is one of the reason for that, he will give her the CREDIT or at least share his ?
Does he really appreciate HER sacrifice ?
If a man and woman spend their days, months and years together, do they actually consider each other as their better HALF??
They will share their life, house, personal space, sorrows and joys but Will they ever share SUCCESS ???

  4. This is a very poignant post. You've posed some deep questions here that a couple would be smart to sit down and discuss.

  6. The husband usually takes his wife for granted and even though maybe be aware of her role in his success will not be outspoken about it. But there are men who love to share the credits with their better-half. But you have raised an important question.

    1. Yes its a question... my question..I noticed there were many more Sneha's.
Few just ignored the question and for others it just didnt exist.
I wonder how many Indian couples actually discuss 'Success' with their life partner??

  8. Interesting post, I think of this often too, as I am and tend to meet other trailing spouses who because of relocation, small children have had to sacrifice their careers. There is always a male vs female P.o.V. on this, and a lot depends on couple dynamics too.

  10. Hey Ananya...I would rather SAY NO out of all the comments who say YES....because MEN are so keen on their own CAREER and they never relate to their wife...its not that they are SELFISH...but they are self-centered and they ACTUALLY have their own world...though we being their WIVEs are SO attached and hang around them all the day...they will not SEE as a part of their life but part of their daily routines...and wont see as a BETTER HALF...
