Mrs INDIA WASHINGTON - The End ??

The green room was filled with all beautiful ladies. Each one were looking stunningly beautiful in their own way. We were all eagerly waiting to get on the stage. I was excited too but was trying to control my excitement and make sure I eat at regular intervals, since I am diabetic my main concern was to keep eating at regular intervals. Yes sounds silly but if I don't eat then my sugar levels fall immediately, its even faster if I am excited or nervous.

The first appearance on the stage, nervous and excited. Everyone had put in so much efforts during the last one month to practice and prepare for this very moment, here it is. We all walked so elegantly that it was hard to tell it was our first time :)

The moment we finished our Indian wear round(first round) we came running to back stage and changed into gowns. My simple, plain apple colored gown made me feel like a princess.

Next was the Talent Round, watch it here.
Sorry for the bad quality of the video but this the best I have

As all my readers by now know me as The Jack of many Trades, but Master of few. So, for talent round I had to decide if I wanted to dance or do something else. Considering the fact that I had few days left to choreograph a song I decided not to dance. The best thing to do was to do something that was effortless and came to me naturally. Its my talent to be able to tell stories. I strongly believe in the fact that we can change the world through stories we tell and it can change lives.

So I decided to act, kind of like a skit or mono act. I enacted an 12 year old girl who has been sexually abused during her childhood and her emotional outburst. The act was a short one for just 2 minutes.

My very talented co-contestants gave a beautiful display of their different talents. There was contemporary dance, classical dances, bollywood style dance and we got to see some creative side of the talent as well with few of us showcasing their baking skills and presentations and two of them recited poems composed by them.

After the talent show, we all changed back to gowns and everyone were called on stage for the elimination round. Only 6 out of 12 would be selected for the last round which is a Q&A round.

We all walked together on stage, my name was called first, I thanked the judges with my hand gesture and walked in front of the line. One by one 5 more were called. Q&A round was pick-your-chit style round. Before I realized I had picked a chit which had the name of the judge who was going to ask me the question.

The Judge, JOHN STILON asked "What are the similarities between Indian Culture and Western Culture?".

I said "Thank you Judge for the question, Thank you all for coming here tonight and supporting us.
Well in my personal opinion I don't see Indian Culture and Western Culture as two different categories. They are like two faces of the same coin. WE are all more similar than different. If I were to give an example we are like chocolate's just wrapped up in different colored papers. We are more similar than different". There was a huge applause from the audience.

At the end of Q&A round, we were asked to wait back stage as they needed few minutes to tabulate the results. I was thinking 'Did I give my best shot?', the answer was 'Yes', from my side I did everything I could do, walked with smile and confidence and as choreographed. Didn't forget anything, neither Did I miss a word nor an feeling while acting in the talent round. I also gave my honest answer in Question & Answer round, it was diplomatically and righteously correct. Now it was all left on the judges decision.

We were all called on the stage for one last time, they announced the winner and it was not my name. I smiled and clapped for the winner.

Yes it did hurt, I did sulk for a day thinking what I must have done better, or where did I loose my points. At the end its a competition, where there is only ONE Winner. It was her day and everyone gave their best shot at the title.

I also think everyone should be proud of what they have achieved. I am sure each contestant must have felt and found their own winning moments by participating in this beauty pageant like finding your own true self, challenging yourself, overcoming certain boundaries you might have set for yourself etc and that is your winning moment and we all should cherish that.

The moment i will cherish the most is  when few ladies whom I didn't know came to me, in the green room and said they voted for me and they really loved me on the stage. Many told me they loved what I answered. One particular comment that I would remember forever was "Your answer just stirred so many thoughts in my mind, it came across to me that you are a deep person with intense feelings and love the way you convert your thoughts in words."

Well I might have not really won the CROWN that night, but I definitely did win few hearts.

Another great experience to cherish for a lifetime.

A Beautiful experience came to an END,
or

Maybe its a New Beginning !

  19. Hey, you are lovely! And great answer.
What did the winner answer? the usual 'World peace and compassion for the poor and needy'?
Your answer was more genuine and heartfelt.

  21. You are a true winner for walking the courage and triumphing through your intelligent answers. You were among the top 5 and demands lotsa courage to grow, emerge as a champion. There is no such thing as right or wrong answers..me feel ki u gave a great answer and that the judge is human and so has his own preferences, not to say bias.
    Cheerz Ananya:)
