Sunny Leone

Sunny leone indian wear, Accept or reject Sunny leone in Bollywood, Ragini MMS 2, Big Boss

I am a member of a online women community, recently I read the concerns of a mother over Sunny. Her question was "Why is sunny leone accepted in bollywood??"

According to her, Bollywood is a platform to showcase one's talent. It is a media which can project positive messages. These days bollywood is well respected.

It is not that everyone in film industry are always well behaved and act like a role models to their fans. Even few of the celebrated movie stars dont act responsibly but to cast porn stars in bollywood is a bit too desperate act.

Good and bad happens in every field but weather we like it or not, some bad has to be camouflaged.
Are we all open to allow our kids to watch porn movies? why not? It explains some things which parents cannot teach children. so why not showcase it in regular theaters? why is it banned. We do that in the INTEREST OF OUR Own CHILDREN. Similarly, certain things need to be banned?

What message is bollywood giving to the youth and people out there? why are they celebrating her ??

I was tempted, to see the reaction of other mothers. One that really interested me was-

That it doesn't matter what career choice a woman makes in the past, but, as long as she is hard working and not being a hypocrite about it by faking being a saint, she will still succeed in Bollywood. Watching porn is a completely different topic. She doesn't do porn in Bollywood movies (at least not that I know of). If its OK for Kareena kapoor to wear flimsy clothes and dance tandoori murgi, then I see no reason why Sunny leone shouldn't be allowed to do the same. There is a censor board in india and every movie has to go through its doors before getting a license.

I really applaud Sunny leone for having the courage to try her luck in Bollywood.  IN my personal opinion...in no way I am disrespecting yours.

Another said She was a porn star , but i don't think she is liked only for her boldness, in her interviews she looks very gentle and decent while talking.

I am among the 600 viewers who read the whole conversation, but didn't leave a reply. Why?? Because the whole conversation was from a mother's point of view, so I thought I couldn't possibly reply, unless am a mother.

My mother saw Sunny Leone, for the first time in December 2013, when she entered the famous reality show BIG BOSS, like other thousands of viewers, she didn't know "Who Sunny  Leone was?"

I am sure  she still doesn't. But I remember my mom really liked her, she was well behaved, gentle and friendly in the show. My mom liked her smile and often said 'She is cute'.

I am trying to imagine what would be my mum's reaction if I tell her who Sunny Leone really is and why she is so popular...

Would my mom's fondness suddenly turn into aversion?

  2. I guess even Cameron Diaz was a porn star before. But later she wanted to change her profession and hollywood accepted her as an actress. Okay, I can be pointed stating the cultures are different. But we are from a crooked culture. We lay emphasis, a lot on society. As the usage of this word has become a mockery. We dont accept rape victims but accept a porn star. And we are giving a chance for her to change but not the rape victims. But on such issues if she is changing her career then what's wrong. May be she is not happy being in the porn business. Anyways nice write up and valid points. thanks for the share.

  3. I have mixed feelings. On one hand no one should have to stay in any field if they don't want -- porn or any occupation. On the other hand there seems to be no negatives to porn these days as many people have transition from it to have major careers as actors. I guess I wish the mainstream wasn't so hypocritical as so many movies come as close to porn as they possibly can. When men run around half naked in movies I guess everything will be equal.

  4. As long as a person is doing what she loves and is good at it, who are we to question her choices? In fact, if she gets bored of Bollywood and goes back to the porn industry, I have absolutely no problem. It's her life after all :)

  6. Nice post Ananya :-) And on the part of Sunny Leone, I agreed with a point said by one of the mother above" That if other popular actress can do sizzling scenes than why Sunny Leone should be stopped! I agree with it completely. To be frank, no director would approach her for dramatic or serious films unless she gets famous! Take example of Kangana Rawat. A change from Gangster to Queen and she had to struggle a lot to get such roles!

  8. Thought-provoking post!

As long as the porn films Sunny Leone acts in are legally allowed wherever they are shot, nobody has a right to question her morals. People who watch her films do so willingly. She does not force anyone to watch her films. Compare that to a smoker who subjects unwilling persons around him to passive smoking.

  10. I like Sunny Leone. She follows rules. The only place she did porn was where it was allowed.

  11. Nice one. However dropped in as I was curious about your views on the topic. You don't seem to have taken a stand though. Well, it is all right - even I am like that - rarely take strong stands this way or that but am curious to read people having strong views on controversial topics.

I saw Sunny for the first time in BIG BOSS, DEC. I liked her and was curious to know more about her and so I first read abt her on Wikipedia.
For few minutes, I was felt uncomfortable. But would watch her daily on my fav show, where she carried herself with dignity and grace.
Yes, I like her, when I see her in bollywood, I look at her just the same way I look at any other actress.

  16. Nice take on all the hoopla around Sunny Leone.. Its true that what she did in US shouldn't concern us here because what she did there is legal in US. She is not a criminal.

Hope to read more of your blog.

  17. A very debatable topic.
I like your neutral views on her and I too think one can't be labeled by his/her past, particularly if they are trying to resettle fresh.

  18. I think some people are WAY too judgmental. People are capable of change.

  19. I think culturally, we should stop looking up to, or respecting bollywood. They are creative people doing their job which does not fall into any kind of welfare, helping or other category. The respect should come in when they do use their reach to spread a message or any other work which falls in the do good category. When you take the respect part out of it, then you are just appreciating their creative work and that does not influence anyone. The message to the younger audience here is not that you need to be in porn to get into bollywood, but about understanding ones choices and changing them once you realize they are not necessarily good.

  21. Great post! I believe she must not be criticised/condemned for her profession...it's her life afterall. She should be respected like a lady.

  23. Love ur thoughts and hv no problem with Sunny Leone as long as she is working hard, being honest and not indulging in hypocrisy or being unlawful. More power to her.

  24. Even I too felt she was gentle and well behaved. Bollywood never taught me anything. I mean, should I be brash and self indulged like SRK or run over people like Salman. People pardoned them didn't they. Children are brought up by parents not bollywood. If someone's kid is not behaving, then bollywood is a really poor excuse, it's their parenting which is at fault. Thought provoking post.

  26. I second the second lady :-). On a more serious note, I think the lady in question (Sunny Leone) has the right to choose her profession. Also, so many of the leading ladies perform an 'item number' in today's movies - she is doing nothing different. It's sad to see how many obscene jokes are floating around on What'sApp etc. about Sunny - talk of double standards!
