How to style a white T-shirt

As a college student, I want quick and easy outfits so I have more time to sleep in or study before class in the mornings. This goes for anybody who must get ready quickly in the mornings or before an outing. A white t-shirt may sound simple, but it allows for so much layering and versatility in an outfit. You can wear a white tee over anything from a pair of jeans to a pair of workout leggings for the gym. It’s like starting with a blank canvas.
I own a couple white t-shirts and I never get bored with pairing them with different accessories and clothes. I styled four looks, using the same white t-shirt. The white t-shirt works with essentially every other color scheme. On the daily, I am a pretty simple dresser, and I stick to neutral colors. At events and parties most people see me all decked out in jewelry and makeup, but typically I am make-up free and dressed casually. During the week, I am usually wearing black leggings, Converse shoes, and a t-shirt (like the white t-shirt used in these looks). The following looks are how I look when I want to seem a little more dressed up, without seeming as if I tried too hard.

V-Neck t-shirt: Forever 21 under $20. Available in assorted colors.

For my first look, I wore my favorite black faux leather jacket, with a simple black velvet choker, dark-wash jeans, and a worn-out pair of white converse high tops. My jacket is flexible, working with anything from dresses to jeans and leggings.

My second look features a dusty, light pink leather jacket and a brown pair of booties (Macy’s). This look is very similar in concept to the first one, but I brightened it up with the pink jacket. I wore the same jeans, and changed my jewelry a little bit. The booties are quite comfortable, but I still prefer to wear them when dressing up a bit more than usual.

My third look presents a maroon skirt, with a denim vest. I wore a violet statement necklace to bring more color to the outfit as well. The black tights were worn for weather purposes, as it was a windy day. This look could become dressier or more business casual, if the denim vest were to be replaced with a blazer or a cardigan.

My fourth look is an exercise friendly look paired with a colorful duo of leggings and sneakers. This is an outfit that I would wear anywhere from dance to class. Sometimes I wear leggings like these to class, even if I have no plans to go to the gym that day. Leggings are always a good buy and I find myself purchasing fun workout leggings whenever I find good deals, even when my mom tells me I have enough.

There are infinite ways to style a simple, white t-shirt, but here are just a few. I had a lot of fun walking around downtown Chicago and Millennium Park with my friends. For me, it is important to appear effortlessly put together. While the temptation to wear sweatpants and baggy t-shirts prevails, the fun I get out of dressing up pushes me to utilize the clothes in my closet better. Personally, I feel good when I look good. So, whenever I am stressed out about an exam or a lab, I dress up, which ultimately does make me feel a little better.
